Skull and Bones.

Description

Honestly whenever I get to do some illustration i'm happy. It's what I started out doing and I still love it. Mix in some cartography, 3D rendering, 2D animation, some pirates and a great client and i'm having a pretty good time. This one was overseen by Sam Keehan (CD) with Yugen Blake leading the UI side, all produced by the one and only Joy Whilby.

Description

The game menu concept was a captains logbook, to give it a diegetic feel (which was a great steer). I created 3D topographic relief renders in C4D and then brought them into Illustrator, photoshop, and eventually Aftereffects to animate. The maps were populated with Icons I designed for various forts, ports and clans. I explored several possible 'Fog of war' looks, my favourite had doodles covering the unexplored regions. I had the most fun in general with the illustrations, and peppered them about book. Ship schematics, East India icons, Skulls etc. Take me back. Game clients are the best.

Description

Outside of the main logbook UI I created rough concepts for the loading screens and title treatments. They went down well though i'm not sure if any of these were used. I had particular fun firing a musket ball though the scrimshaw at the bottom.
